Zanzibar certainly captures the imagination and is world renown as the spice island and a staging point for many early expeditions into the African Continent from the likes of Dr Livingstone to the likes of Burton and Speke. Stone Town was The staging point for these expeditions. This itinerary gives you the opportunity to visit Stone Town where you can take a variety of historic tours and then head out to the coast to relax or enjoy diving at one of the great dive sites. Perfect for a short stay and this itinerary can be extended!

In Detail

DAY 1 –
ARUSHA / ZANZIBAR

From Arusha Airport you connect with the schedule flight to Zanzibar. On arrival you are met and transferred to Stone Town for a late lunch. In the afternoon you can book an optional historical tour. Dinner can be taken at any one of the number of restaurants in town (contact us for recommendations).

DAY 2 –
STONE TOWN / MATEMWE

In the morning there are options for optional tours of the spice groves or Jozani forest before transferring north for lunch at Matemwe. Set on the north-eastern tip of Zanzibar, Matemwe is superbly situated for access to great dive sites and also a great retreat to relax.

DAY 3 –

MATEMWE

Optional activities at own cost or relax at the lodge. Note extra days at Matemwe can be requested.

DAY 4 –

MATEMWE / DEPART

In the afternoon you transfer to Zanzibar airport to connect with a schedule flight to Arusha. Here you are met and transferred to International departures. Note that earlier departures can be accommodated for and day rooms can also be booked to minimize time spent at the airport.

(lunch only - request day rooms in Zanzibar if you want to maximise beach time or in Stone Town, or leave on the earlier flight and take a day room in. Also consider swapping round the itinerary to end in Stone Town)
