RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL

The world as we know has tremendous natural resources, but these finite resources are being exploited in an uncontrolled and often disastrous manner. Apart from the obvious practices of trash in trash out policies and encouraging our teams to clear up any litter they find, Adventure International also actively supports positive environmentally sensitive projects. Our guides also receive extensive training about topics such as botany and so are able to make our guests aware of interesting flora and fauna. We also encourage our guides to avoid careless off road driving or hiking and we ask that our guests respect the same.

We believe that business derived from tourism can help create meaningful benefits to the land and local communities our guests visit. Our impact is in fact minimal for most of our trekking and biking programmes. However, vehicle transfers and safaris create a bigger carbon footprint. We have decided to partner with Carbon Tanzania in off-setting our carbon emissions in East Africa. By donating, we help to reforest indigenous plant species in various ecosystems based on biodiversity need. Today, we remain one the few companies that offers carbon neutral travel in East Africa. Other destinations also include further carbon off-setting and wherever applicable local employment of team members who support our guests’ expeditions. As standard we encourage our guests to off-set their International plane flights.

There are also a multitude of community development organizations that are doing amazing work and we support these groups and projects in any way that we can. Charity Challenge Events help raise money for different causes every year and we help in the logistical management aspect for these events. We also provide trips for our travel partners who seek to inform people about their organizations on the ground and also create a wonderful experience for their supporters. The idea is to create a symbiotic relationship between development and tourism.

Our ethics include fair wages, a dedication to training and a career path for all employees, casual or full time. In an environment where change is rapidly degrading traditional cultural networks and support systems, trying to make progress in an ever-changing world can be challenging to say the least. By providing a fair wage (often 3 times the industry average) and by giving opportunities for ongoing education we expect our team members to have the choice and chance to progress.
